Our farm started with a dream — a dream that is slowly becoming reality.
We work according to the principles of permaculture: a way of designing and working with the land that takes inspiration from natural ecosystems, traditional knowledge and sustainable agriculture.
For us, it is about cooperation between people and the nature around us. Instead of trying to control everything, we look at how the different parts of the farm can work together.
Animals, meadows, soil, plants, insects and people all have their place.
Our farm is never really finished. It changes organically with the seasons and with us — becoming, little by little, a circle of life.
Our Animals
Our animals are part of our family and have their own places to live and rest. Please always ask us before visiting or approaching them. We are happy to introduce you and tell you their stories.
Life on the Land
Our sheep and horses have their own areas in and around the stable and can choose whether they want to be inside or outside. They live separately, but they are neighbours.
The meadows are divided into different grazing areas. By alternating between horses, sheep and land that is allowed to rest, we help create greater diversity in the soil and give grasses, wildflowers and insects the opportunity to thrive.
Everyone Has a Job
Even the animals have a role in caring for the land.
The horses graze the longer grasses and browse leaves and shrubs. Their movement opens the soil and their manure returns nutrients to the land.
The sheep graze differently. Their smaller hooves help press the soil back down, while their manure provides a different mix of nutrients.
By rotating the animals between the meadows and allowing areas to rest, we try to create a natural cycle in which the animals help us care for the landscape rather than simply living on it.
Over time, healthier soil supports a greater variety of grasses, herbs, flowers and small shrubs — which in turn provides better grazing for the animals and more habitat for insects and other wildlife.
It is a cycle in which everything has a purpose.
A Farm for the Future
We don’t pretend to have everything figured out. The farm continues to develop, and we continue to learn from the land, the animals and the people around us.
Our aim is simple: to leave this place healthier, richer and more diverse than we found it.
And when you stay at our Homestead, you become a small part of that story.
